Lullabyes and Morning Adieus

The ink on his shoes dripped away onto the ground. Both of our feet were in an inch-deep indentation in the street - puddle water bleeding into our shoes and socks. Caught up in his arms, we were kissing, holding hands, our hair getting drenched in the heavy rain. Mine, and not so much his - though his tiny little hood didn’t do much good, after all.
A droplet traced the path of a tear as it hit the corner of my eye. He brushed it away awkwardly, clammy hands cold. We kept our lips pressed together, for lack of something to say.
I shivered and pulled away.

She smiles softly, clutching his hand like an expensive purse, her other draped around his neck, brushing at his hair. Little nothings breeze through her glossy magazine print lips. "We're very happy." She tells me earnestly, lacing their fingers together. Her bright, dyestuff blue eyes twinkle at me as she grins, slow and liquid, showing her pretty, capped teeth. I bite the inside of my cheek, and look to the man she's sitting against, back to chest, ring to ring. He's bored. I start to hate the impromptu questi 7 minutes in heaven.
